My Beginnings in Golf
My joy of golf
started while attending Reedley College. In a college tournament I shot
a 77, and after one year improved my playing by ten points.
My Training
I started
teaching part time in 1980 and turned professional in 1995 when I
passed the USGTF certification course and the Playing Abilities Test.
In 1997 I received my Master teaching credential in San Diego,
California, and finished #1 at the school. In that same year I passed
the P.G.A. Playing Abilities Test in the San Francisco area.
Tournaments and Accolades
My successes in
tournaments started in 1977, when I won the Mexican American Golf
Association Club Championship. I came in second at the United States
Golf Teachers Golf tournament, and always finishing in the top ten
since 1997 competing throughout the United States. I have competed in
the World Golf Teachers Championship in 1997, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2005
and 2007 and finished in the top 20.
So far, my
lowest round of golf is a 63 and I have 7 hole-in-ones. An honor I'm
proud of is that I've qualified as a team member of the United States 5
times as one of the top 6 players. Golf Magazine nominated me as one of
the top 100 instructors in America. I was enducted in the USGTF Hall of
fame.
Golf Instruction
I have given
over fifty thousand golf lessons through out the U.S and in countries
such as Mexico, Brazil, Canada and Spain. While coaching the Tenaya
Middle School in Fresno, our team won the championship five out of six
years. My team at San Joaquin Memorial High School won 5 league
championships. Currently, I'm coaching the Bullard High School
girl’s team. We have won the league championship 6 consecutive
years.
Continuing Golf Education
David Iwanaga
features me in his book, “The Duffer's Guide to Better
Golf.” Personally, I've written 4 books, 3 of which are in the
editing stage. The fourth, “Kindergarten Golf,” which is in
the pre-publishing stage, has received rave reviews from John
Andrisani, former senior instruction editor at Golf Magazine and
best-selling author of over 30 books.
I have attended
teaching seminars with the likes of Julies Richardson, David Vaught,
Mike Stevens, Don Trahan, Butch Harmon, Bob Toski, Jim Flick, Jimmy
Ballard, Pia Neilson and Putting Guru, Harold Swash. I'm also teaching
certification classes for the United States Golf Teachers Federation
for those who aspire to become golf instructors.
